When billing on my credit card, is the date of the transaction on the card the same date that I buy it?

In other words, if I go to McDonalds on June 6th and buy breakfast on my credit card, will the credit card show the transaction as June 6th, or will the transaction date on my receipt be a few days before the date that shows on my credit card statement?
