Is it possible... that a person's ideals and thoughts of what the perfect mate will be...?

Hinder them from seeing the reality of a mate? Men and women have their own ideas.. visions... pictures... of what they want and like in their ideal mates. Could this stop them from seeing things realistically and make sure nobody really measures up? Example... men dream about a y woman with the perfect face. Women dream about the perfect man with a great body, face and all the right moves. How would normal, daily people compete with those ideals?
